Project Introduction

The Blue Mountains Banner Series is a collection of digital illustrations created to celebrate the unique wildlife and natural landscapes of the Blue Mountains region.

Five winter banner artworks from the Blue Mountains Banner Series celebrating local wildlife and native flora

Inspired by the Blue Mountains Landscape

The Blue Mountains is a place shaped by its distinctive eucalypt forests, sandstone landscapes and remarkable biodiversity. The banner series draws inspiration from the plants and animals that make this environment unique.

Each illustration began with research into local species, using observations from the landscape and reference photography to create accurate yet engaging representations of native wildlife and flora.

From iconic animals to the smaller details often overlooked, the artworks aim to encourage curiosity and appreciation for the natural world that exists alongside our communities.

Seasonal Stories

The Blue Mountains Banner Series explores the changing character of the landscape across the seasons, celebrating the wildlife and native plants that make this region unique.

The series has been developed as two seasonal collections, each capturing a different expression of the Blue Mountains environment through carefully researched illustrations of local flora and fauna.

The winter collection has now been unveiled, bringing these artworks into public spaces throughout the region. The summer collection is currently being held for a future reveal and will be shared once officially released.

From Observation to Illustration

Creating the banner series involved combining my background of wildlife observation, photography, research and digital illustration.

Reference images were gathered to understand the characteristics, behaviours and details of each species. These observations informed the composition, textures and storytelling within each artwork.

The illustrations were developed through a layered digital process, building individual elements of wildlife, plants and landscape into cohesive seasonal scenes designed for large-scale public display.

Bringing the Artwork into Public Spaces

Seeing the completed banners installed throughout the Blue Mountains transformed the illustrations from digital artworks into part of the everyday environment.

Displayed at large scale, the banners create opportunities for residents and visitors to encounter local wildlife in unexpected places - encouraging connection, recognition and appreciation of the species that share this landscape.
